Lymphoma (Lymphosarcoma)
Species: Cat
Breeds Affected: All breeds (FeLV-positive cats at higher risk; usually middle-aged to older cats)
Overview
A malignancy of lymphocytes and lymphoid tissues. It is the most common cancer in cats and may affect lymph nodes or organs (eg, gastrointestinal tract, liver, spleen, chest). The alimentary form is now the most common.

Treatments
Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice. For low-grade intestinal lymphoma, an oral protocol using prednisolone and chlorambucil is common. High-grade lymphoma may require a multi-agent (CHOP) protocol. Surgery or radiation may be options for localized disease. Supportive care is also provided.
Medications
Prednisolone (corticosteroid), chlorambucil for low-grade lymphoma; CHOP chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisolone) for high-grade lymphoma; L-asparaginase may be included; along with supportive medications such as antiemetics and appetite stimulants.
